Study of Gabriel Hardman's Hellboy Sketch

No comments :
Study of Gabriel Hardman's Hellboy Sketch, using Krita 2.5 Beta.

Study of the original artwork by Gabriel Hardman (see references). After making some tighter ink drawing, it was nice to keep my lines looser. You can also see a list of Hardman's work here.

Inked with my custom basic_ink_tilt_20. I also used this preset for hatching, but with a small size and making light strokes. For the wider black areas I used the basic_paint_fill.

King Conan: The Scarlet Citadel #4

1 comment :

This is a study of the original cover artwork (see references).

Same production process as in “Dan From Street Figther”, expect the colors on this one are still flat; will add depth to it later.

Dan from Street Fighter

No comments :
Dan from Street Fighter Legends - Sakura, using Krita 2.5 Beta.

Inked with a customized basic_ink_tilt_20 preset (decreased brush tip fade to about 0.20, both for horizontal and vertical, to get smoother lines). Then painted the color blocks with texture_paint_chalk with size controlled by stylus pressure and opacity set to 100%. Each group (clothes, hair...) had its own layer. Then the alpha channel was locked to prevent painting outside the lines and the basic_airbrush was used to paint the shadows and highlights.

Afro Samurai: Jinno

Sketch of Jinno from Afro Samurai, using Krita 2.5 Alpha

Used basic_ink_tilt_20 (with opacity set to ~10%) to sketch and paint_texture_dirty for the basic shadows. On the background just played with the fill and gradient tools.

Illyana in the arms of Christopher Belmont, using Krita.

This scene is from the issue number 2 of Castlevania: The Belmont Legacy comics. The comic book story is based on the Nintendo Game Boy game.

The line-art was done with Pencil_2B present and then used some Hatch presets for shading.

Iron Man's Head

No comments :
Digital painting of Iron Man's head, using Krita.

The outline was drawn with "Basic_ink_tilt_20" and the coloring (including highlights and shadows) was done with "Basic_airbrush". The background is just a radial gradient with a layer filled with a pattern on top of it.

Spawn

No comments :
Tonal value sketch of Spawn, using GIMP Paint Studio.

Spawn is a comic book superhero who appears in a comic book of the same name, created by Todd McFarlane.

Synopsis: Al Simmons, a former Marine Corps soldier, was recruited into a special division of the CIA. But while on the job he often butted heads with his boss, Jason Wynn, causing Simmons to formulate plans for resigning. Wynn ordered Al's assassination and Al was sent to Hell, due to his life as a mercenary, and made a deal with Malebolgia: Al would be reborn as a Hellspawn.

The sketch was painted using a hard edge round brush with low opacity (~40%). I used S_Splats2 and T_Texture6 brushes for the ground. The chains were painted with the help of the Z_Chain1 brush.
